Agrigento Archaeological Museum Tour: Itinerary
Meet your local licensed guide in front of the Church of San Nicola, a few steps away from the parking area near La Promenade Café (Via Passeggiata archeologica). The tour begins outside, in front of the Gothic portal of the Cistercian Church of San Nicola with its Romanesque façade.
From here, we admire the view of the Valley of the Temples and explore the remains of the upper agora, including the ekklesiasterion (assembly meeting place) from the time of Timoleon, the so‑called Oratory of Phalaris, and the cloister of the Cistercian monastery.
Inside the museum, we visit the main rooms displaying figurines, ex‑votos, local pottery (including the Dinos with triskeles from the 7th century BC), and Attic vases — among them the crater with a sacrifice scene, the one with Perseus and Andromeda, and the famous “Vase of Gela.”
The tour culminates with two masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture: the Agrigento Kouros from the severe period, and the monumental Telamon from the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
